New Erotic Works by Axis, Richard Colman, Chris Lindig, & Kime Buzzelli
November - December 2004: The Erotic Museum, Hollywood

The Erotic Museum presents four underground artists on assignment to create
raw aphrodisia for the unconventional appetite. Curator Carlos Batts states,
â€œThis collection of provocative low-brow work authenticates a new concept of
arousal for our flesh-saturated popular cultureâ€. What results is a heavy
collection of carnal gratification and abstractions of desire uncontaminated
by the slick and shallow archetypes of mainstream sexual ideals.

AXIS Created in sickly saturated monster-vision, Axisâ€™ hellscapes are
drooling with demonic cartoons enacting debase violence and sadistic
victimization. His skate-punk origins shape his engorged aesthetic and
politicized black humor as his artwork moves from the streets and onto the
pages of Strength, Skateboard, WARP (Japan), and Morning Wood. Axis is also
featured in the new street art documentary ROCKFRESH (dir. Danny Lee), which
premiered June 2004 in Los Angeles.

RICHARD COLMAN Colman constructs a troubling visual narrative distinctly
flavored with psychological violence and a morbid sense of calm, where you
know something has gone terribly wrong, yet it is secretly pleasing. The
dreams of the dead reanimate on his canvases; an underworld tinted with
washes of blood at the mercy of Colmanâ€™s sexually depraved subconscious.
Colman has held solo shows at the Merry Karnowsky gallery, sixspace in Los
Angeles, and 555 Soul in NYC, with group shows include â€œGraffiti meets
Windowsâ€ (Japan) and â€œStreetwise3â€(LA). Colmanâ€™s art featured in Juxtapoz,
Super7, Swindel, TimeOutNY, and While you Were Sleeping magazine.

CHRIS LINDIG Lindigâ€™s art depicts a sect of Eastern religion /
Western-Heavy metal-organized-criminals receiving religious direction and
sneaking around in bizarre sexual encounters. His erotic works are iconic
and medieval while revealing the secrets of the sex-death conspiracy. New
Image Art in Los Angeles carried Lindigâ€™s first solo show, while his pieces
have also appeared in Cincinnati's Publico Gallery, New York's White Box
Gallery, on a complete Anti-Hero Skateboard series, and in Arketip and Loyal
Magazines.

KIME BUZZELLI Makeup, watercolor, thread and fabric are all collaged into
Buzzelliâ€™s experimental drawings that explore the emotional eroticism of
impulsive pleasure and flirtatious curiosity. Decorated with the femininity
of the 1960â€™s, her voyeuristic Lolitaâ€™s are confused and deeply aroused by
love. Her work has been featured in BUST, PAPER, CosmoGirl, W Magazine,
Dickbreath, XLR8R and Fashion Illustration Next. Buzzelli owns Show Pony, a
fashion boutique/installation space in Los Angeles.

CURATED BY CARLOS BATTS: Batts grew up in Baltimore sandwiched between John
Waters and HOMICIDE, taking snapshots of cadavers and naked people. A
collection of his work was published as WILD SKIN by Edition Reuss, then
followed by CRAZY SEXY HOLLYWOOD which was released in conjunction with
Battsâ€™ first curatorial effort presenting photographers Patrick Hoelck,
Estevan Oriol, Rick Castro, Dave Naz, and Steve Diet Goedde. His epic third
book AMERICAN GOTHIC will be released in 2005. Battsâ€™ warped vision has
infected Vibe, Maxim, The National Enquirer, Skyy Spirits, Reptilian
Records, and New Line Cinema.
