Area Planning Committee Meeting - September 28th at 4:30 PM

The Area Planning Committee Meeting regarding the proposed apartment
development for the Belmont Tunnel and Toluca Train Yard site has
been re-scheduled for Tuesday, September 28th at 4:30 PM 10th Floor Hearing Room at the Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. We will be the first item on the agenda. The entrance to the building is on Main Street between 1st and Temple Streets. There will be strict airport style security enforced when entering the building. Bring I.D. Parking is very difficult in this area, so arrive early. People wishing to speak regarding the requested variances to the existing zone rules may speak for up to 2 minutes only if they fill out a speaker card. We need all the support we can get at this meeting,
even if you do not want to speak.

General Update on Situation The Cultural Heritage Commission voted to designate the Tunnel Portal and the Power Substation building as Cultural Historic Monuments. The Area Planning Committee Report recommends that these structures remain open to the public and be offered to the Department of Recreation and Parks and be maintained by Meta Housing. The reports recommend construction of a tall masonry wall between this portion of the site and the proposed apartment units. The Report recommends denial of one of the requested variances for a reduced setback along 2nd St.

These are definite partial victories for Belmont Art Park United.
Without our efforts even these gains would not have been achieved. However we must continue the struggle. These motions essentially allow the development to move forward and for the Toluca Train yard and Belmont Art Yard to be destroyed. No art park, no future use for transportation, no Tarasca ball game,no public park. We must speak and show support at this public hearing on September 28th.
