The Movement Urban Film Festival features works that give a global
perspective to the power of film to bring culture alive. The festival showcases
works that
deal directly with the realities of urban life and art. Festival screenings and
shorts
include:
Havana Hip Hop (2005) Dir. Ben Caldwell
Shot in Cuba, Havana Hip Hop explores the cultural links between emcees
from
Havana and L.A.'s Project Blowed.
Infamy (2005) Dir. Doug Pray
Featuring artists from all over the U.S., Infamy takes the viewed through
the art and experiences of some of today's most prolific figures in the world
of
graffiti. * Discussion and Q & A with Infamy director to follow documentary
screening.
Diamonds in the Rough (2006) Dir. Brett Mazurek
Filmed in Kampala, Uganda, Diamonds in the Rough highlights the vitality of
rap music in Africa from the perspective of the emcee and activist.
West Coast Poppers (2006) Dir. Gerardo Sanchez and Ernesto Quintero
Based in L.A., West Coast Poppers introduces the viewer to the beginnings
and contemporary forms of hip hop street dance in L.A.
