The End of The Historical Belmont Tunnel
Two weeks ago, while having some cold beers and reminiscing about the good times all of us have had at
the Belmont Tunnel, I suggested to RICKONE-K2S and SCRIBE- MGM, that we should get some friends
together and paint something meaningful at the tunnel. As many of you already know the end is very near
to our beloved tunnel and being a place us writers call our second home, I couldn't't see it go without a
note worthy good- bye. Something need to be done. As ideas were thrown around back and forth, we
decided on a graffiti timeline that would outline the birth of the tunnel to the existing date.
With the help of some friends, I began to make some calls and eventually managed to round up a good
group of writers and on June 25th, 2004 we were able to make our ideas a reality.
It all began with the man who started it all, Shandu-LABS, the first to paint at the tunnel in 1984. With old
and new writers reminiscing, beers flowing and the smell of paint in the air, together we accomplished our
mission of painting the whole tunnel. Overall I think the event was a success taking in consideration that
we only had one week to put it together!
To all of you that participated, I thank you. For those of you that have not yet seen the result, I suggest
you go visit the Belmont tunnel to see all the great pieces from some of the dopest LA writers from the
past and present.
