Robert Hardgrave and Casey O'Connell at BLK/MRKT
BLK/MRKT Gallery is proud to present a two-person show featuring new
paintings by Seattle’s Robert Hardgrave and San Francisco’s Casey
O’Connell. In addition to non-collaborative new paintings they will be creating
a site-specific installation that is not to be missed. This exhibition will run July
15, 2006 through August 19, 2006. An opening reception will take place on
Saturday July 15 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm.
Both O’Connell and Hardgrave’s processes and their paintings are in a
sense completely opposite, yet they share a fascination with symbolism and
ritual; each of them deliberately encodes their private experiences into their
painting. Following different paths and speaking in different tongues, they
have each found a way to express and transcend private terrors through the
creation of art whose dark, edgy beauty represents a reconciliation with the
past and faith in the future.

BLK/MRKT Gallery, located in the heart of the Culver City Art District, was
established in Los Angeles in 2001 with an emphasis on new contemporary
art. Artists include Tiffany Bozic, Jeff Soto, Dave Kinsey, Ben Tour and
